"Look at that."
"Look at that!"
"LOOK AT THAT!"
Ubud, full of awe and wonder at every turn. Whether it be the monkeys in the monkey forest, the rice terraces of Tegalalgang or the beautiful architecture surrounding you all day every day. Ubud really is a feast for the eyes.
We stayed in the gorgeous Kori Ubud resort and spa, which is around a 5 minute taxi out of the centre of Ubud (£2.50). We had amazing views from every spot of our suite (see the pictures below)
We stayed for 5 nights and loved exploring the winding streets of Ubud and the twist and turns of the market. We had a few days trips, here are my highlights and top tips -
Monkey forest - Our taxi to the forest cost us £17 but we had a driver for the entire day who took us to where we wanted to go & sat waiting for us to take us to the next place. The forest itself cost us £2.50 each. When you arrive you can purchase bananas and other fruits to feed the monkeys - if you're brave enough! We absolutely were not and made our way through the forest and the temples as quick as possible to avoid being jumped on. But if a monkey on your shoulder is your thing then go for it! Just be careful to keep hold of your sunglasses, bags etc. Some of the oldest, sassiest monkeys will take them without hesitation.
The rice terraces - An absolute must see. Again, we used the same driver so it was part of our £17 taxi fee. The terraces themselves are free to see but there is a donation point if you'd like to contribute. You can trek the terraces and walk all around them which is so beautiful. Be aware that when we went there was a young girl who offered to take a photo for us, and in return wanted £2.50. Not really a problem but just have your wits about you.
Ubud market - Time to barter. Having read online to half their first offer and go from there I gave it a go. Some things we bought however they'd started the price so high we still paid too much. So instead we decided £5 for a tshirt was more than enough and that was our final price, regardless of their first offer. If they won't budge on price just move on. There are plenty of stalls selling the same thing & chances are, the moment you walk away they'll shout you back and give you the price you want. You'll find clothes, jewellery, art, spices, souvenirs from tat to treasure. Definitely worth a look round and an explore.
We loved every minute of Ubud and then travelled on to the Gili Islands ... Which was another paradise we fell for. Of course.
